Midas was a king of the ancient kingdom of Phrygia and he was a wealthy, powerful man who had everything you could ever wish for. But that still wasn’t enough; Midas wanted more. One day, he met a god and was granted a wish. Driven by his greed, he chose to have the ability to turn anything he touched into gold. It was not the smartest idea, as you can imagine, and he soon realised that when he discovered he could not perform even the simplest of daily tasks without turning everything into yellow metal. Nowadays, this story has inspired the phrase, ‘a golden touch’, which implies that someone is lucky or has done something good. PG Soft will be hoping that they’ve achieved that themselves here with the release of Midas Fortune, a medium volatility, five-reel, five-row video slot featuring a maximum win of 5,000x and an RTP of 96.73%.
Midas’s predicament proved to be quite an inconvenience for him, but when playing this slot inspired by his story, you’ll be very grateful if he manages to turn the screen golden. The action takes place on a 5x5 grid, and there are no specific paylines to restrict us as this game utilises a cluster pays style mechanic. Game enhancing additions to look out for include gold symbols that can transform into wilds, multiplier values that grow bigger the more wins you achieve, and a free spins round, during which you will have a minimum of eight spins and an opportunity to get the multiplier as high as possible, as it does not reset between spins.
So, do you think you’ve got the golden touch? Find out by trying the Midas Fortune slot demo, which is available to play for free below!

You’ll find that most providers have a Midas-inspired title on their books these days. And why not? It’s a great theme for a slot game, after all. But if you fancied a change of scenery whilst retaining a similar game mechanic, try out these other cluster pay style creations from PG Soft. First up, it’s Rave Party Fever, a medium volatility, seven reel, seven row video slot featuring a maximum win of 5,000x and an RTP of 96.73%. It contains plenty of game-enhancing features to help you dance to its beat, such as symbol removal, transforming symbols, random wilds, and a bonus round, which features increasing multipliers. Or how about Alchemy Gold, a five-reel, five-row video slot featuring transforming wild symbols, as well as a free spins round to shoot for. It boasts an RTP of 96.73% and a maximum win of 5,000x. Ok, next up, we’ll take a further look into the features of Midas Fortune, starting with how much you can win.
Sitting at the top of the paytable are King Midas and his daughter Marigold, with both returning 7.5x your total stake for a cluster of 20+ symbols. Next, it’s the three remaining premium symbols, the Chest, the Golden Grapes, and the Goblet, which all pay 5x for clusters of 20+. Keeping it pleasingly simple, from a slot reviewers’ perspective, are the three non-premium offerings, the A, K, and Q, which will all return 4x for 20 or more symbols when part of a winning combo. Considering that these numbers are based on the top pays for each symbol, they seem very low at first glance. But once you start to play the game, it's clear that multipliers are usually involved, which drastically boosts these base figures.
Looking at the stake options on Midas Fortune, we can see that there are many to choose from, which is common on a PG Soft title. Bets start from as low as €0.20 to as high as €180.00, so there's likely to be a suitable stake selection comparable to the size of your bankroll.
Analysing the game mechanics, we see that Midas Fortune is set on a 5x5 grid and uses a cluster pays system. To make a winning combination, all you need is five or more symbols linked together adjacently anywhere on the grid. All symbols involved in a win are then removed from the reels prior to the next cascade, where additional symbols drop down from the top to offer the opportunity for further wins to take place.
At random, during any spin, some symbols may have a gold background. If any of these gold symbols are involved in a winning combination, they will turn wild before the next cascade.
If at least three or more gold backed symbols are touching horizontally or vertically, they will all be transformed into wild symbols.
If any wild symbols are involved in a win, the total win value from that cascade will be multiplied by +1 for every wild used. That total multiplier value will then be held at the top of the screen. If there are any further wins involving wilds during the next cascade, then the number of those wilds will be added to the existing multiplier to produce the total multiplier value to be applied to that win. This can continue indefinitely until there are no further wins. Any wins not involving wilds will not have the multiplier value applied to them.
Landing at least three scatter symbols on the reels during any one spin will trigger the free spins feature, awarding eight free spins. Any additional scatter symbols above the required three will award a further two starting spins each.
Multipliers are collected in the same manner as in the base game, through achieving wins involving wild symbols, with each wild used adding +1 to the total. The multiplier value will not be reset between spins during the bonus, allowing it to rise to a substantial value. The current multiplier value is applied to the total win at the end of each spin. Two scatter symbols will award an additional four spins, and it is possible to re-trigger the full feature by landing all three.
I’ve reviewed many PG Soft titles recently, and I have to say that Midas Fortune is up there as one of my favourites. The two variations of the wild activation feature, Gold Symbols and Midas Gold, ensure that each spin is exciting as you look to activate those golden squares. It’s the kind of game that rarely seems to give a dead spin, and decent base game hits come along often, thanks to the wilds and multipliers. The action ramps up even more in the bonus game, where the multiplier value is held between spins. It can really kick off here, and I had it as high as x38 during testing. My only slight negative is that I feel the maximum win had the potential to be higher than 5,000x on this game.
